So when darlings came to me, I did not want to lend the production of the film. So I decided to ask for a lower fee and also that I take the back of the film. Actually, by that time I realized that I was much more interested in what goes on behind the camera and what it takes to make a movie. Ten years in the industry, I released my first film as a producer and I feel like the understanding I’ve gathered from making a film like darlings has been very substantial. I’m always learning – That’s my motto! I believe that you continuously learn and grow. You always have to ask questions, because you don’t have all the answers, nobody has them, not even Bill Gates.”
She went on to say: “It seemed like the right choice financially, but otherwise as a creative person, ten years in the industry, it seemed like the right thing to do. Sorry, I was eight at the time.”
At the same time, Alia also claimed that she didn’t want to be like a production house constantly producing content after content. “I’m still a boutique production house. It won’t be like I’m producing content. But I’ll set a goal where I might want to develop a show, a movie, or a podcast. Either way, I know I want to bring out content that I’m connected to and that has an emotional core that’s extremely high. I want to be part of a filmmaking process behind the camera and not just in front of the camera,” she concluded.
