House of the Dragon showrunner Ryan Kondall renegotiates HBO deal

“House of the Dragon” co-creator, writer, executive producer and showrunner Ryan Condal has extended his overall deal with HBO. The news comes after the resounding success of the ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel and the initial Season 2 renewal on the cable network.

Kondal, who previously served as a co-showrunner with director Miguel Sapochnik, previously inked a deal with HBO in 2020, right after “HOTD” received a direct-to-series order. The series, which was also developed by writer George R.R. Martin, was the first to win after several unsuccessful spinoffs, including a pilot starring Naomi Watts.

“When I picked up that paperback copy of ‘Game of Thrones’ two decades ago, I wasn’t even sure I’d make it as a screenwriter. Co-producing a series set in Westeros, here’s myself To discover, is almost beyond thought. I’m incredibly lucky,” Kondall said in a statement. “I’m grateful to George R.R.
