Keanu Reeves exits Hulu’s Devil in the White City

Keanu Reeves is no longer attached to starring in Hulu’s “Devil in the White City,” which was set to mark the blockbuster star’s first major TV role, TheWrap has confirmed.

The long-running project stars executive producers Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese. Based on the bestseller by Eric Larsen, “Devil in the White City” by Daniel H. Burnham, a demanding but visionary architect who races to make his mark on history with the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, and Dr. H.H. Holmes (playing Reeves), America’s first modern serial killer and The man behind the infamous “Murder Castle” built in the shadow of the fair.

Sam Shaw (“Castle Rock”) serves as writer and showrunner while Todd Field (“Tar,” “Little Children”) directs the first two episodes. With Scorsese and DiCaprio, Rick Yorn, Xander Davison (via DiCaprio’s Appian Way), Stacey Sher, Mark Lafferty, Leila Boyock, Shaw and Field all executive produce. Produces with Paramount Television Studios ABC Signature.

DiCaprio was first reported to play Holmes in 2010, when Appian Way acquired the rights to Larson’s non-fiction novel, “The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic and Madness at the Fair That Changed America”. were taken. , After bouncing around multiple studios including Warner Bros. and Paramount, it landed on Hulu in 2019 with DiCaprio and Scorsese going on to EP roles.
