Dems must still debate election denials

As the midterm elections draw closer, the women of “The View” think debate is an essential ingredient to making good voting decisions—even with those who don’t care about the 2020 election. I am lying.

To start the day’s Hot Topics Friday, moderator Whoopi Goldberg cited a recent report from The Washington Post that highlighted the fact that there are 299 Republican candidates running who are still supporting lies. That the 2020 presidential election was stolen from Trump. As a result, many Democrats have said they will not debate their opponents.

And while the women of “The View” agree that the lie should not be allowed to continue, they also agreed that the better way to stop it would be to shut it down and let it be on TV. be dismissed in the debates.

“I mean, how does this work? How do you say ‘No, I’m not going to do this,’ and then they stand there and keep pushing the lie,” said Whoopi, also of Democrats. “There is an obligation” to prove why people should vote for them.

Host Ana Navarro argued that, in fact, opting out from answering questions to elected officials in general has set a bad precedent on both sides — specifically excluding Arizona Democrat Kirsten Cinema.

“I, frankly, think that it should be necessary for anyone running for office that they agree to the debate because it is optional,” Navarro said. “It must be a necessity, because a lot of these people, once elected, you know, run into bathroom stalls and don’t like to answer questions from voters and don’t like to face “

Sarah Haines said the debates shed light not only on policy, but also on how candidates actually respond to real-world conflict.

“Those debates not only show us what they feel on the policy, which you can find on a website, it shows you whether they feel better when they listen to you,” she said. “How do they deal with a challenging approach, how do they come back. We learn much more from this. So it’s not fair to not give us that chance…”

Navarro said one obstacle for candidates is the fear of slipping away and saying something embarrassing in public.

“People don’t like to argue because there is a chance that a mistake has been made, it is going to be a costly mistake that can cost the election. Who has to?” he said. “You are obligated to tell your voters what your position is, to answer tough questions, to answer policy questions, and not just us – based on 30-second and one-minute attack ads Don’t vote.”
