Werewolf by Night Director discusses the future of the main characters

Werewolf at night is a unique entry into the MCU, with director Michael Giacchino channeling his love of classic horror movies into the Halloween special. In addition, the Disney+ entry is shot almost entirely in black and white, something only WandaVision has done with its first few episodes.

When you start working with Marvel, you naturally follow the canon story that Kevin Feige has tirelessly perfected over the past 14 years. However, Giacchino named his inspiration from the twilight zone, who told individual stories while working with wider implications. We’re left with a complete story within the hour-long run of the special, but there’s no doubt more to explore with the new characters introduced. During an interview with ColliderGiacchino discusses Werewolf at night and whether the main characters, Jack Russell and Elsa Bloodstone, have a future in the MCU.

“So I was like, ‘Well, let’s get these guys in and just let it be a standalone story.’ I kept referring to it as, consider this an episode of the twilight zone, and we’re going to read this story and this story just one night in the lives of Jack and Elsa, and let’s focus on that. From there, who knows? We’ll see what we do. We’ll see where it goes. We’ll see how we play it all out. But right now I didn’t feel the need to worry about that. And they certainly didn’t force me to do that, which I love and thought gave us the freedom to do something different and do something new. It completely disconnected us in a way where it didn’t matter what we wanted to do because we weren’t worried about how it would affect anything on either side. So we’ll deal with those challenges and those questions at some point. But right now this is it.”

Fans hope to see more of the characters like Werewolf at night turned out to be a success for Marvel Studios.
