The Mani Ratnam directed Ponniyin Selvan 1 is on a historic run in Tamil Nadu as the film has clocked in at Rs. 150 crores in 9 days in the state. The historical epic starring Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Trisha and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is the third film after baahubali 2 and Vikram in the history of Tamil Nadu to clock Rs. 150 crore in the state.

On his 9th day, PS1 has the lifetime collections of baahubali 2 (Rs. 155 crores) in Tamil Nadu and there is a good chance it could topple the current record, Vikram on Sunday ie the 10th day. It took 5 years before Vikram dethrone baahubali 2 from the first place at the box office of Tamil Nadu, and PS1 managed to tilt Vikram in a span of just 3 months.

As it is trending, PS1 could become the first ever Tamil film to do Rs. 200 crores or more in Tamil Nadu which will be a record to be challenged by PS2 next year. Rarely does an industry bring two record profits in the same year, and it has happened in the film industry in Tamil Nadu with PS1 and Vikram over a period of 3 months.

The first place is currently taken by Vikram with a TN Gross of Rs. 172 crores, and it’s a matter of a day or two before the Kamal Haasan movie slides into second spot. The total of 9 days PS1 in TN stands at about Rs. $156 million.
