Super Mario Bros. Movie Trailer Has Nintendo Fans Hoping The Legend of Zelda Is Next

After the new teaser trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie was released, Nintendo fans are already looking forward to a possible movie based on The Legend of Zelda. Back in the 80’s, The Legend of Zelda was developed as a cartoon series, but never got an actual feature film adaptation. That’s probably partly due to the live-action Super Mario Bros. movie tanking in 1993, leaving Nintendo much more apprehensive about allowing movies based on its most popular franchises.


Despite some criticism of the voice casting, reception of the teaser has been The Super Mario Bros. Movie has been quite positive. The animated movie is much more faithful to the video games than the live-action movie, and some gamers say that this one looks a lot more like the Mario movie they’ve been waiting for. And as Mario joins Pikachu and Sonic in the battle for the video game adaptation boom, many are saying that The Legend of Zelda should finally get the next treatment.

“The fact that we have a live action pokemon movie and now an upcoming one Mario movie opens the possibility of a Legend of Zelda movie,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“With the release of the Mario trailer i really hope someone picks up the rights for Zelda‘ says another, including a GIF of Link celebrating.

And as another fan puts it “the mario movie is cool and all but i want to see a legend of zelda movie.”

Meanwhile, others are imagining what the hypothetical movie would look like with even fan-made designs being made for the characters. An artist posted some artwork from Link, Ganondorf and Zelda as they might appear in a Legend of Zelda movie.

It’s not crazy to imagine that Nintendo is heading for The Legend of Zelda after the release of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, especially if things go well as hoped. Earlier this year, The Legend of Zelda was voted the most wanted video game adaptation by fans, and this kind of question has certainly not gone unnoticed by Nintendo. If this is new Mario movie is a hit, then the chance of a Zelda following movie will become much more likely.
