A new comedy series is in the works starring Damon Wayans Jr. next to father Damon Wayans. Per Deadline, the unnamed multi-cam sitcom is in development at CBS. The older Wayans also co-writes the series with Kevin Hench (Last Man Standing). Wayans, Wayans Jr. and Hench are all executive producers with CBS Studios as the production studio.
While no title has been revealed, some plot details have been given for the father/son sitcom. According to the report, it follows “legendary talk radio host and happily divorced ‘Poppa’ (Wayans), who has to drag his adult son (Wayans Jr.), who has all his charm and none of his drive, into his adulthood, kicking and screaming. turns 40.” No details have yet been revealed for any other characters or actors associated with it.
Both Wayanses have past experience with CBS. For the older Damon, that goes back to the hit sitcom My wife and children which ran for five seasons from 2001 to 2005; Damon Wayans Jr. made his acting debut on TV in that show. More recently, the two reunited for an episode of the CBS sitcom Happy together in 2018, although that series was canceled after one season. Wayans Jr. has also appeared on his father’s comedy show The subway on Showtime.

The elder Wayans has long been a force in comedy, harking back to his days as a sketch comedy Saturday Night Live and In living color. He is perhaps best known for his film work, including starring roles in such films as The Last Boy Scout and Major Payne. In more recent years, Wayans has stuck with the small screen and had a run as one of the lead characters in the TV series adaptation of Deadly Weapon.
