When an actor makes an entry in Bollywood, a typecast follows. Some become action heroes, some become romantic heroes, and some become anti-heroes, but Ayushmann Khurrana is different. He has invented a new form of heroism – one whose filmography revolves in a circle and this circle revolves around reproduction, child birth, process and beyond. From Vicky Donor to someone with erectile dysfunction in Shubh Mangal Savdhaan, Ayushmann has done it all. In Badhaai Ho, he even tackled the idea of parents getting pregnant. Although he was a bit off track when he picked up movies like Andhadhun, Anek and more, he is back in the loop. So what’s next for him? Well, the answer lies in Doctor G. He has moved on and become a gynecologist in the movie directed by Anubhuti Kashyap.
What is it about?
Film Doctor G is about a Junior doctor who has the ambition to become an orthopedic surgeon. However, there are no places available for him in the orthopedic department. But he has to stay in Bhopal because he has to take care of his mother. So for him, the only available seat is in the gynecologist’s room. Can a man be a successful ‘gyni’. Arey, society kya kahegi. What happens to male touch? Ayushmann Kurrana’s Doctor G is all about this and much more. Is it worth watching? Read the review to know.
What’s hot?
Of course, Ayushmann Khurrana! Not only is he handsome to look at, but his acting will keep you captivated the whole time. He is the heart of the movie and arguably the most suitable actor to make a movie like this. The female lead is Rakul Preet Singh. She has a substantial role in the film as Ayushmann’s senior and does justice to it. Over the years, Rakul Preet Singh has definitely improved her acting skills and she only gets better. Shefali Shah plays the role of Ayushmann’s mentor in the film and, as always, she tried her best. While Ayushmann is the soul of the movie, the supporting characters did a good job of moving the story forward. Director Anubhuti Kashyap has tried to keep the plot and story as believable as possible and that works in the film’s favor. No glamour, no clichéd dramatic scenes and no unnecessary songs – the film is short and enjoyable. In the first half of Doctor G, there are many scenes that will tickle your funny bones. Trust Ayushmann Khurrana to be the perfect “non-hero” in a movie that makes you believe he’s one of us.

What not?
There are a few parallel stories in Doctor G, so sometimes it all feels jumbled up. It gives more than one message and that detracts a bit from the film. Although the writer and director have done their best to coordinate the stories well, the film sometimes pops up everywhere. Also the background score could have been better. The last half hour of the film is quite predictable. BL verdict:
