Aamir Khan and Kiara Advani first came together on screen for an AU Bank advertisement about banking services that challenged Hindu marriage traditions. While many appreciated it for breaking stereotypes, many of them took offense and demanded a boycott. The Kashmir Files filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri also slammed the ad for hurting Hindu sentiments. Due to the flak they received, AU Bank removed the ad.

This isn’t the first time a brand has been criticized for its commercial. In the past, brands such as jewelry brand Tanishq and several others have been forced to remove ads after being given flak. A few days ago, filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri shared his thoughts on Aamir Khan’s ad Kiara Advani on Twitter: “I just don’t understand since when Banks became responsible for changing social and religious traditions? I think @aubankindia activism should do by changing the corrupt banking system Aisi bakwaas karte hain fir kehte hain Hindus are trolling. idiots.”

Amid netizens slamming the ad, one commented: “Aamir Khan does not have the audacity to mock his own religion or question the practices of Halal and triple talaq, but he makes fun of the Hindu very easily. -religion. Because Hindus’ feelings and beliefs don’t matter. ‘A cow-eating demon, who feels unsafe in India and safe in Turkey… and does nothing but insulting rituals. #AamirKhan_Insults_HinduDharma,” said another. “Is it good to change tradition for the sake of change? Aamir Khan once again shows that he is no different from medieval Muslim invaders who simply wanted to destroy Hindu traditions. But the question is, why do some of us support such things in the name of ‘changing tradition’?” claimed another.
The commercial featured Kiara Advani and Aamir Khan as the bride and groom where, contrary to the usual custom of “bride” going to a groom’s house, a groom is shown going to a bride’s house, where the tradition is reversed.
