Aamir Khan’s Long-Awaited Movie Laal Singh Chaddha is approaching its theatrical release! The actor has ensured that the film will not be released on OTT until 6 months after the theatrical release.
Aamir Khan on the industry that releases movies quickly on streaming platforms: ‘For economic reasons or because of bandwidth, you can’t get it on OTT so quickly’
But in a recent interview with Gallata Plus, the actor explained why his movies take time to hit digital platforms. Aamir Khan added: “OTT is not actually a challenge for the cinema, but we are making it a challenge for the cinema. What we do is we say we will release our movies in theaters, but you don’t really have to come because in a few weeks you can see them at home. How do you expect people to come to the theaters? That’s the mistake I think the film industry is making.”
Aamir Khan also said: ‘The faster you go into OTT, I don’t think that makes sense. You should have a clear demarcation between the platforms. If there isn’t, common sense tells you that you can’t get it on OTT as quickly for economic reasons or because of bandwidth. When things go that fast, cinema doesn’t stand a chance, so it’s on our hands. As filmmakers, we have to decide. I make sure my movies don’t appear on OTT so soon. The whole industry should do the same.”
Several movies appear on OTT shortly after they hit theaters, somewhat diminishing the public’s curiosity to go to the theater and watch a movie. Speaking of the same, Aamir Khan previously said, “One of the reasons I think the curiosity of going to the cinema has waned because movies come out on OTT right after they hit the cinema, they come on OTT very quickly. So i always tried to take a 6 month break for my movies i dont know what the industry is following but i like to keep a 6 month gap so thats what i tried to do for all my movies and so far it has been successful.”
Laal Singh Chaddha, produced by Aamir Khan Productions, Kiran Rao and Viacom18 Studios, also starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Mona Singh and Chaitanya Akkineni. It is an official remake of Forrest Gump. The film will be released on August 11.
