Adam Sandler’s Murder Mystery 2 suffers the same fate as Netflix predecessor

When the most positive thing about a movie is its short running time, you know you’re in trouble. Unfortunately, that seems to be true Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston have found themselves with their comedic sequels Murder mystery 2. The film launched on Netflix to much the same lackluster response as the original film received in 2019, with scores from audiences and critics alike on Rotten tomatoes free fall toward sub-50% territory.

While it was almost to be expected, the movie could have done something new to try and beat the 44% score Murder Mystery but is instead referred to by many as just another rehash of the same old story, with the same old Adam Sandler – at least the comedic side of him. The biggest problem for the mystery movie is that it’s much better Knives out And Glass onion have now raised the bar for whodunit movies like movies Murder mystery 2 just don’t have a chance to reach.

However, the original film broke Netflix records at the time, garnering large viewership volumes despite the negative reviews. Or Murder mystery 2 will be able to be a hit again is something that will be seen in a few weeks when the viewing data becomes available.

Murder Mystery 2 Director Jeremy Garelick enjoyed working with Adam Sandler

Regardless of what the reviews say, one person who was more than happy with the film is director Jeremy Garelick. Speaking recently with MovieWeb’s Nikki Sun, the director spoke of the old adage “never meet your heroes” and said working with his comedic hero Adam Sandler was anything but disappointing. He said:

So they say never meet your heroes because they say you will be disappointed. But I think Adam Sandler is the only person where that doesn’t apply. He really is one of the best people in the world, and I think that’s why he’s done so well for so long, because you could see his heart coming through the screen, and he’s an incredible guy. He’s a huge human being. He’s so funny. But he is also a perfectionist. He works very hard. He has thoughts about angles, on every line. Um, he’s an incredible producer, and he’s just amazing, and it’s been great to spend some time and really get to know him, and he’s a great guy.

Murder mystery 2 certainly tries to outdo its predecessor with more locations, bigger set pieces and plenty of stunts. While it doesn’t seem to have paid off for the majority of those who have seen the film, there are still those who want to see the kind of comedy Adam Sandler can do in his sleep. For those looking for something a little less everyday Murder mystery 2 seems likely to end in disappointment. But as so many poorly rated movies have been shown on Netflix, sometimes that’s not enough to keep millions from clicking on them to watch.
