Ali Asgar opens up about his tiff with Kapil Sharma – ‘Maybe, Kapil didn’t know the reason why I quit the show’

It’s been almost 5 years since Ali Asgar retired from The Kapil Sharma Show after Kapil Sharma and Sunil Grover’s brawl. Ali had become a household name with his character Daadi in the comedy show. However, he decided to quit because he felt his character was not growing, which led to his discontent. In a new interview, Ali cleared the air about his alleged relationship with Kapil, saying that he holds him in high esteem as a comedian. Talking about why he quit The Kapil Sharma Show, Ali said he was not creatively pleased with his Naani character compared to Daadi’s and he had conveyed the same to the team even before touring Australia in 2017. He shared his fears with the team and told them that he was not keen on renewing his contract. “Maybe Kapil didn’t know why I quit the show. It may not have reached him. I can’t cheat as an artist. If I’m not happy, how am I going to entertain the audience? So it seemed better then to leave the show and if something nice came up we could work together again,” Ali told Bombay Times. “We missed each other’s calls then and there was a communication gap. Over time, we both moved on. But I’m glad I was a part of it and I learned a lot from him. I will always respect him. He understands the pulse from the audience and knows how to put on a show,” he added.

Ali also agreed that after leaving The Kapil Sharma Show, he was unable to recreate success with his other projects. However, he has no complaints or regrets about his decision as he had a reason to quit and it wasn’t overnight. He said that if his intention was to make money, he would have continued to be a part of the show.
