According to media reports, Apple TV+ has canceled “The Mosquito Coast” after two seasons.
The decision comes fresh on the heels of the end of Season 2, which concluded two weeks ago.
Based on the 1981 bestselling novel by Paul Theroux, “The Mosquito Coast” stars Justin Theroux, Melissa George, Logan Polish and Gabriel Bateman. The story follows Eli Fox (Theroux), an idealistic inventor who puts his family in danger to escape the US government, cartels, and bounty hunters.
The previous film adaptation of the book starred Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren and River Phoenix. The first two seasons served as prequel material for the film, directed by Peter Weir, which came out in 1986.
The show’s second season saw the Fox family flee Mexico to seek refuge in a community of refugees led by an old friend of Alli’s. A local drug lord and his family muddy the waters in Newfound Haven. The second episode of season 2 also involved a potentially dangerous insect bite that could lead to Eli contracting Chagas disease, but his son Charlie (Bateman) quickly discovers a remedy.
