Arya is back in theaters today with Shakti Soundar Raja’s Captain. The Raja Rani hero is known for choosing scripts that are different from the routine. He is undoubtedly one of the most affordable actors in the south and again, with Captain, Arya is back with another actor-entertainer. Here’s our review of Captain. Somewhere in a deep and dense forest, a couple of army officials, traveling in a jeep, are killed. Nobody knows who killed them. This has also happened many times with many other officials. In the next scene, Major Vijay Kumar (Arya) and his team are in the middle of a mission to rescue hostages. After successfully rescuing the hostages, Vijay and his team are tasked with entering Sector 42, which is closer to the Indian border with three other countries. As captain, Vijay is asked to go into the woods to find out who is behind the murders of these officials. Scientist Keerthi (Simran) tells Vijay that an alien is behind all these murders. What is this creature? Why is this killing people? Who is the brain behind it? This is what Vijay with the help of his team needs to reveal and make India proud.

What’s hot?

The concept is nice. It’s different from the routine and definitely something that Tamil cinema has not explored until now. Director Shakti previously directed a movie called Tik Tik Tik and it is a huge hit. Coming back to Captain, the story is simple but meaningful. It is said very clearly that humans are the brains behind various destructions that are happening on Earth and that it will one day endanger all of us. VFX is the main asset of the film.

Arya got into the character’s skin and he did a really good job. He is that perfect man and army officer that every country would want. Heroine Aishwarya Lekshmi has nothing big to do in the film and is barely seen in four to five scenes and a song.

Simran’s role has some negative shades and she is the perfect choice to play the arrogant, selfish and wealthy scientist who can go to any lengths to achieve her dream. That one romantic song between Arya and Aishwarya is beautiful and soothing. BGM and music D Imman certainly took the movie to the next level.

What not?

The director should have focused a little more on the story. He should have lengthened the movie (it’s only 1hr 57min) and increased the climax. The main creature dies using two bombs while it is difficult to kill the miniature creatures. In a film, in which help is sought from the Indian army to kill creatures, the height must be great. The story needs to be built up on a grander scale and the screenplay is slow, though it’s entertaining in bits and pieces.

BL verdict: This action thriller is a must if you want a break from the routine and rom-coms. Arya is a visual delight here.
