Becca Tobin says there was a ‘stigma’ surrounding her jump from ‘Glee’ to ‘Ladygang’ podcast (VIDEO)

For most actors, coming out of a hit television show means you are immediately on the lookout for the next hit series. But for Becca Tobin, the end of “Glee” marked the beginning of her podcasting career — and she says there was definitely a “stigma” surrounding her choice.

As part of this year’s TheGrill conference hosted by TheWrap, Tobin joined others in the industry to discuss how podcasts have quickly become Hollywood’s new goldmine. Tobin has hosted “The Ladygang Podcast” with Jack Venek and Kelty Knight since 2015, with “Glee” wrapping up on Fox the same year.

“My biggest challenge was overcoming the joke that I made while leaving ‘Glee,’ and all my actors were like, ‘What are you gonna do? You’re leaving. podcast?'” Tobin recalled during the panel. “And now they are all doing them, but it is neither here nor there. But yes, after coming out of a hit show and having some weird starts at that time, it was a bit difficult to get rid of the stigma.”

That said, Tobin wasn’t phased out much at the time, and certainly isn’t now, admitting, “I like to be underestimated.”

But while some might think that getting podcasts off the ground would have been harder to come off a TV show, Tobin said doing so in 2022 is probably harder than it was seven years ago.

“We were so quick that in order to sign with Podcast One, we just had to have a pulse,” Tobin joked. “It was not that much of a competitive place. It was mind-blowing to him that three women wanted to start a podcast. So we just got it – for the first time in my entire life the timing was right. ,
