Pinning contemporary and classical interpretations of the season’s celebrations against each other, Arthur Christmas sees Santa’s clumsy but well-meaning son go on a mission to personally deliver Santa’s last present to a young girl who has been missed due to a malfunction in the recently upgraded, high-tech sleigh. Originally released in 2011, this beautifully animated feature film received overwhelmingly positive reviews, making it the highest-rated animated film of the year. It’s full of memorable characters, plenty of humor and an amazing voice cast that includes James McAvoy, Hugh Laurie, Bill Nighy, Jim Broadbent, Imelda Staunton and Ashley Jensen.

This 2003 Christmas romcom from director Richard Curtis (Four weddings and a funeral, Notting Hill, Bridget Jones’ Diary) features one of the best ensemble casts ever assembled, including Alan Rickman, Emma Thompson, Hugh Grant, Keira Knightley, Colin Firth and Liam Neeson. With several interrelated storylines, Love actually has become a Christmas chapter for many, thanks to its sharp humor and emotional storylines. Not only is the film a must-see for those wanting a celebratory treat, it also has an amazing soundtrack that reached number one on the UK album chart and has spent over 145 weeks on that list to date (via HITC).

The evening before is a wild and wacky drug-driven Christmas comedy starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen and Anthony Mackie as three childhood friends who reunite annually on Christmas Eve in search of the best party in New York City. The movie contains just as much offbeat humor as you’d expect from a movie that mentions Evan Goldberg and Rogen, who are responsible for movies like Super bad, Pineapple Expressand Sausage party. Also found is a surprising amount of heart and emotion.
4/7 Bad Santa 2
Unfortunately the original Bad Santa movie is not currently free to watch on Prime Video, so viewers will have to settle for the 2016 sequel Bad Santa 2. Still as drunk and foul-mouthed as ever, Billy Bob Thornton once again dons Santa’s red suit as Willie Soke while teaming up with his criminal companion Marcus (Tony Cox), who masquerades as an elf, so the pair can run a charity shop. can rob. at Christmas Eve. While it’s almost unanimously agreed that it fails to reach the heights of its classic predecessor, there’s still plenty to laugh about if you’re a fan of the franchise’s brash and crude, misanthropic humor. Kathy Bates is especially entertaining as Willie’s obnoxious, conniving, estranged mother.

Featuring a talented cast of comedic actors, including Jason Bateman and Jennifer Aniston, Christmas party at the office is a bit rawer than your typical festive affair. It is about a group of office workers who want to throw the office Christmas party to end all Christmas parties in an attempt to impress a potential client and save their workplace. Somewhat unsurprisingly, the party gets wildly out of hand and hilarity ensues. Fans of directors Will Speck and Josh Gordon’s previous work, including Swords of Glory and The switchare sure to enjoy what’s on offer in this raw holiday flick.

All right, hear us out, yes, the film was beset by critics, and yes, it was nominated for a whopping six infamous Golden Raspberry Awards, an award show honoring the year’s worst cinematic underachievement, but with a whopping 13 feature films in the making. Made one cinematic universe, there has to be some kind of market for it. In this post, A Madea Christmas, Tyler Perry’s Madea spends the holidays with the grandniece’s daughter. The film explores the sentimental bond the two develop, utilizing Perry’s unique brand of crass but family-friendly humor. Not for everyone, but definitely for someone.

Celebrate Christmas is a chaotic yet touching story of a couple who, after their holiday plans are unexpectedly thwarted, must spend time with their dysfunctional families on Christmas Day. To make matters worse, each of their parents is divorced, meaning they are now required to live in a total of four separate households, each with their own emotional challenges. While perhaps not the most original premise, the movie is buoyed by strong leads from Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn. Among all the madness and disorder, there is a lot of hope, goodwill and heart in a film that turns out to be as moving as it is funny.
