Best TV Series coming to HBO Max in May 2023

Two of the biggest shows currently running HBO max (who is renamed Max), Succession And Barry, released their final seasons in April. New episodes of Succession And Barry will cause quite a stir in May as we learn how the journeys of the Roy family and Barry, the assassin, come to an end.


Season two of Someone Somewhere is also currently streaming on Max (the new name coming into effect on the 23rd), and if you’re in need of a little soul-warming, piece of goodness in your life, check it out ASAP. And that’s not all. Here are the other potentially best TV series coming to Max in May.

Plumbers in the White House (May 1)

Created and written by Alex Gregory and Peter Huyck and directed by David Mandel, Plumbers in the White House is an upcoming political drama miniseries. Based on the 2007 book by Egil Krogh and Matthew Krogh Integritythe show revolves around the Watergate scandal.

Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux star as the architects of the infamous Watergate scandal and President Richard Nixon’s political operatives, E. Howard Hunt and G. Gordon Liddy. As they scramble to secure Nixon’s re-election, members of the infamous “White House Plumbers” group are tasked with preventing damaging leaks to the press by any means necessary.

Their efforts, of course, ultimately backfired, leading to the outcome they were trying to avoid. Their actions not only resulted in a political scandal that rocked the nation, but also paved the way for significant changes in government transparency and accountability.

In an interview with IndieWiredirector and executive producer Mandel (from Seinfeld, VeepAnd Control your enthusiasm) noted:

“In fact, in most Watergate movies ever made, the break-in is the opening scene. This is a limited series that is 100 percent about the burglary. We’re going to meet these guys before the burglary, and we’ll see the effects of the burglary on their lives. This is the story that none of these other [stories] hindered to some extent.”

The series also stars Lena Headey, Judy Greer, Domhnall Gleeson, Kiernan Shipka, Ike Barinholtz, Rich Sommer and Kathleen Turner. Originally scheduled for release in March, Plumbers in the White House will finally be released today, May 1st.

The Other Two (May 4)

Created by Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider, The other TWO is a comedy television series that premiered on HBO in 2019. The show follows the story of siblings Cary (Drew Tarver) and Brooke Dubek (Heléne Yorke), whose lives are turned upside down when their 13-year-old brother Chase (stage name, ChaseDreams), played by Case Walker, is the other day a viral sensation ala Justin Bieber.

The collaboration between WarnerMedia and RTL Deutschland will launch in May as a Max Original in 61 territories in the US, Latin America and Europe. Created and written by Kristin Derfler, Two sides of the abyss is a television series about Luise Berg, a police officer from Wuppertal.

The series explores Luise’s life after her daughter’s killer is released from prison early, leading her to inevitable disaster. The show depicts a psychologically complex game in which the lines between guilt and innocence, perpetrators and victims, and law and justice are constantly blurred.

The character of Luise Berg is played by Anne Ratte-Polle. Dirk Martens, Josephine Thiesen, Lea van Acken, Toni Gojanovic, Charlotte Krause, Linda Gegusch and Ann-Kathrin Kramer also play in the series.

Spy / Master (May 19)

The Max original drama series Spy / Master is a historical play set in the backdrop of the Cold War. It stars British Independent Film Award-nominated actor Alec Secăreanu (formerly of God’s own country, RUXX).
