Bill Maher Explains Jorge Santos’ Ability To Be Everything To Voters Of Both Parties

Bill Maher wants only one thing for his birthday — for someone to explain to him the “phenomenon” of George Santos, who, as comedian and “Real Time” host, says “Pinocchio made his way into Congress and who represents a growing class of American society – the liars.”

“When they film his biography, it will start with ‘Based on a False Story,'” Maher joked. “This guy lied about his schooling, his career, his sexuality, his charity work. What kind of family raises a person like this? We don’t know because he lied about them too.”

And Maher isn’t exaggerating. The Republican House Representative from New York’s 3rd congressional district has become a running joke to those who are not on the extreme-right wing of politics.

But Maher argues that Santos has quite a game going on because his lies have been effective in getting him a place in Congress. The comedian added, “He’s the first person to realize that since we’re all in our hermetically sealed media bubbles, you can now pretend to be everything to voters in both parties.”

“No one on either side will notice the appeal of some of Santos’ lies to the far-right: far-right Republicans such as he was in Trump’s election refuse to even hint at or claim white power in the halls of Congress. were or were claiming to be. He was a Wall Street miracle man who made millions working at Goldman Sachs, which he didn’t, or a luxury yacht broker, which he wasn’t.

He added: “The giveaway here is that Santos’ district is Long Island, New York, a suburb of Manhattan. Not liberal but almost always went Democratic. Biden won it by eight points. So a Trump-lover in a Democrat-leaning district How did white nationalists who refused to be elected get elected? Simple. He told them what they wanted to hear.”

“What do liberals love?” Maher asked. “Identity politics and victimhood. So he said he had a brain tumor and was one of the first New Yorkers to be hospitalized for COVID; he said he lost four co-workers in the famous Pulse nightclub shooting in 2016. Granted; he’s from Brazil, which is overwhelmingly Catholic, but when he ran out in New York, he said he was Jewish and, in fact, his grandparents fled Ukraine to escape the Nazis. That’s right — their Jewish Ukrainian ancestors survived the Holocaust by being born Catholic in Brazil.

There are too many lies to count and yet, they have their supporters. While many wonder how such a person can get elected, Maher has an answer.

“I’ll tell you how — because nobody cares about substance anymore. It’s all tribalism,” Maher said. “The only thing that matters, is he on our team? Is he doing shtick? Santos is just the first person to realize that you can splinter both sides and get away with it because people have done absolutely anything that doesn’t already fit their narrative. Republicans love a winner, and Democrats love someone whose life story makes you want to kill yourself.
