With MCU spin-offs and several miniseries appearing on Disney+ every year, Winston Duke is looking for action. The actor plays M’Baku in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a character first introduced in Black Panther in 2018. While we haven’t seen much of M’Baku (compared to other umbrella characters within the MCU), his character has proven to be involved in his few appearances.
Of course M’Baku returns for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and he can play a more prominent role after the devastating loss of Chadwick Boseman. However, Winston Duke wants to be included in a world where Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, Loki and Agatha Harkness get their own Disney+ shows. During an interview with Collider after his appearance at the D23 Expo, Duke was asked where he would like a M’Baku spin-off to focus if it ever came to fruition. He insists his answer is purely hypothetical, but likes the idea of exploring what his character would look like in the world.
“Say that again for everyone to hear. Say that again, for the people in the back. The Jabari-Lands are such a rich culture space within Wakanda that it would be really cool to explore that. We’re talking pure hypothetically here We’re just spitballing and dreaming You’re dreaming with me my tall friend I like the idea of what M’Baku would look like in the world That would be pretty cool because he’s not a character we usually see exploring. I think his kind of honor code would be pretty cool to see interacting with so many other things.”
Whether we’ll ever see a spin-off of M’Baku is still up in the air, as Marvel has already introduced a slew of characters as we dive deeper into the Multiverse saga. However, his role in the general MCU should continue as long as he doesn’t die in an unfortunate way in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is almost ready for release
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has the daunting task of following up on the first film without the lead role of Chadwick Boseman. The film will no doubt try to honor its legacy, as much of the film seems to revolve around that. The official synopsis of the sequel reads: “The nation of Wakanda faces off against intervening world powers as they mourn the loss of their King T’Challa.”
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever features several familiar faces, including Martin Freeman, Angela Bassett, Lupita Nyong’o, Letitia Wright, and Danai Gurira. Tenoch Huerta will join the cast as Namor, the main antagonist of the upcoming film. Ryan Coogler is leading the project just like he did with Black Panther and serves as a writer alongside Joe Robert Cole. The highly anticipated sequel to the 2018 smash hit hits theaters soon, featuring Black Panther: Wakanda Forever premiere on November 11.
