“Blindspotting” appeared to neatly tie up Ashley’s (Jasmine Cephus Jones) and Miles’ (Raphael Cassel) storyline at the end of the Starz comedy’s eventful season 2 finale. But a surprise cameo in the final moments of the episode upped the ante of the show — and down an exciting path forward.
The episode, titled “Return to Ithaca”, followed Miles’ surprise release from prison. He returns home at the end of the penultimate episode just as Trish (Jaylen Barron) confronts Ashley about kissing another man while Miles was in prison, causing a major rift in the couple’s relationship.
The finale follows Ashley and Miles trying to figure out how to move forward, along with the rest of their family, after her betrayal and Miles’ surprise return. Although it took some time and difficult talks, the couple were ready to put their troubles aside and look to the future as they celebrated New Year’s Eve with their son, Sean (ATTICUS WOODWARD). In the final moments of the episode, as the family enjoys their reunion and their troubles in the rear view mirror due to Miles’ disarray, the show follows a motorcycle club that drives towards their house. One of the members parks his bike in the driveway and removes his helmet, revealing that it was Collin (David Diggs) – Miles’ best friend and co-lead in the movie “Blindspotting” which preceded the Starz show. Very talented to be honest.
Diggs, who co-created the sequel series with Castle, had not yet reprized the role of Colin on the show. The character’s presence was however felt throughout the first two seasons, and his family was heavily featured, including his sister Janelle (Candace Nichols-Lippman) and mother Nancy (Margo Hall).
Colin’s return just after Miles is released from prison could serve as a tight end to the series, rekindling the dynamic at the center of the critically acclaimed “Blindspotting” that inspired the show, as well Opened the door to re-focus on the show. Main characters of the franchise in a possible third season. The first two installments focused on Ashley as she moved into the household parenting Miles and mother-in-law Rainey (Helen Hunt) following Miles’ arrest.
“David and I talked about it and we felt like [Colin’s big return] It was the best way to put a fun hook at the end of the finale,” Castle told TheWrap. “My approach to art is like, ‘If it’s got to be, it’s got to be.’ And television is unpredictable. What Daveed and I are here pining for a third season, it’s irrelevant. I have a bunch of actors who are extremely talented and love the show, and they also have careers and other things they want to pursue. There are all kinds of other projects that we all want to do.
“I think every season there’s a gathering of people and we’re going ‘Does this make any sense?’ do we want to go back Does it feel like the audience wants it? Looks like we want it? and do we have a really great idea [to move the story forward], ,
Whether the season 2 finale marks the end of the “Blindspotting” saga remains to be seen. The comedy series has not yet been canceled or renewed for a third season.
