After collecting better than expected on Friday, it became quiet for chup and dhokha on Saturday. In fact, the former was better as he still managed to keep his head above Rs. 2 crore mark though dhokha stayed under Rs. 1 crore. All eyes were therefore on what the two films would look like on Sunday.

As was the case, chup did some pace on Sunday when Rs. 2.25 crores* more came in. This was good enough for the film as it raised Rs on Saturday. 2.07 crores, so at least there is a reasonable increase in the number of visitors. So far, the film has collected Rs. 7.38 crores* and in a sense things are in balance after National Cinema Day gave a huge kick in the foot, raising Rs. 3.06 crores had come in. Without it, the Balki-directed psychological crime thriller might have opened around Rs. 2 crores mark and then evenly grown to reach the same total.

On the other hand dhokha saw minimal growth on Sunday as Rs. 0.80 crores* came in. Ideally, the film should have topped Rs. Another 1 crore mark on Sunday since it was seen on Friday. The reports for the film are quite good, but then it plays on a very limited number of screens. Also, the public has too many choices available, don’t they? Brahmastra, chup or even Avatar. Amidst all this competition, the Kookie Gulati-directed hostage drama has somehow managed to reach Rs. 2.70 crores* and one waits to see how things unfold from this point.

The good news is that ticket prices for both have been released chup and dhokha also through Thursday, meaning additional footsteps can be expected. However, all this would ultimately only work if visitor numbers were double or triple what it would otherwise have been during the weekdays, because only then would the break-even point be reached as far as the absolute collections are concerned.

* Estimates, final figures pending
