The Ranbir Kapoor – Alia Bhatt starrer Brahmastra directed by Ayan Mukherji was released on more than 5000 screens in India last Friday. Reportedly one of the most highly anticipated releases in recent times, the film came with a lot of hype, hopes and expectations. Exceed trade expectations, Brahmastra opened with a bang in Rs. 36 cr on day 1, followed by the film business which also showed good growth on the second and third days. In reality, Brahmastra managed to pull in Rs. 120.75 cr within just three days of release.

In this box office report, we look at Ranbir Kapoor’s past releases that have managed to break past the Rs. 100 cr mark while comparing the same with Brahmastra. Not surprising, Brahmastra which collected Rs. 120.75 cr has become Ranbir’s fifth release to achieve this feat. Compared to his other releases, Brahmastra is third on the superlative list Ae Dil Hai Mushkil which collected Rs. 112.48 cr, and barfi which collected Rs. 112.15 cr. While on the one hand the opening weekend of Brahmastra has managed to surpass the lifetime collections of most of Ranbir’s previous releases, failing to compete with Sanjuc which collected Rs. 342.53 cr, and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani which collected Rs. 188.57 cr.

Moving forward, Brahmastra which enjoys an incredible trend at the checkout, is expected to see its collection continue to grow over the coming weekdays. In fact, trade forecasts state that the film will eventually destroy the lifelong collections of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and also to emerge as the actor’s second highest grosser ever.
