Heisenberg’s story may have come to an end with the conclusion of: Breaking Bad on television, but maybe we’ll see Walter White’s return in video game form if many fans have their way. Released earlier this year on PC and consoles, the crossover fighting game MultiVersus brings together various heroes and villains from the Warner Bros. Discovery catalog. From Batman and Bugs Bunny to Gizmo and the Scooby Doo gang, players can choose from the most random characters to battle it out in brawls most people never thought they would see.
People like LeBron James as seen in Space Jam: A New Legacy and the titular duo of Rick and Morty be added to MultiVersus has fans of the game wondering who could be next. Online there has been a movement of gamers who love Breaking Bad who want Bryan Cranston’s Walter White to become a playable character. Fan-created artwork of Walter in the game has been bobbing around on social media as requests continue to come in to add the expert meth chef.
In fact, per GameRantWalter White has been determined to be the second most requested character for MultiVersus. He stands alone behind Ben Tennyson van Ben 10while those who follow him Yakko, Wakko and Dot or . to be AnimansMordecai and Rigby van Ordinary performanceand Gumball from The wonderful world of gumball. It’s worth noting that Walter White is the only character not animated and high on the list.
The biggest problem with bringing in Walter White is that he is part of the… Breaking Bad IP, which is not owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, but from Sony. That doesn’t make his inclusion impossible, but it does make it less likely given the rights issues that need to be resolved before Heisenberg can battle it out with Shaggy, Harley Quinn and Tom & Jerry. If there is enough demand for the character, there is always a chance that the investment will be made to enable the inclusion.
Walter White almost had his own GTA-style game
There was a momentary Breaking Bad mobile game dubbed Breaking Bad: Criminal Elements, but the hit show never got a proper video game adaptation. At one point, series creator Vince Gilligan was interested in spinning Breaking Bad in a video game reminiscent of the Grand Theft Auto series. However, given how much investment goes into making video games, those plans never really materialized.
“We hadearly on,” Gilligan said on the In the Gilliversum podcasting. “I’m not much of a video game player, but how do you not know that? Grand Theft Auto? I remember saying… ‘Who owns it? Grand Theft Auto? Don’t have a module? Can there be one Breaking Bad (game)?’ It still makes sense to me. That never happened.”
Of MultiVersus fans keeping their fingers crossed, maybe we’ll see Heisenberg pop up in that game soon.
