There are few directors in Bollywood whose name alone is enough to entice audiences to the cinema. Sooraj Barjatya is such a filmmaker. The trailer of his upcoming movie, uuncha, was launched a few days ago and has grabbed eyeballs. That it brings Sooraj Barjatya and Amitabh Bachchan together for the first time also added to the excitement. And now we bring you an exciting development regarding this movie.
BREAKING: Yash Raj Films to Distribute Rajshri’s Uunchai in India and Abroad; Amitabh Bachchan starrer to leave Hum Aapke Hain Koun; will be released in limited screens
A source told Bollywood Hungama“Yash Raj Films (YRF) will distribute uuncha in India, but also abroad. This is the first time that a respected production house, owned by Aditya Chopra, has released a film by Rajshri Productions on the domestic market.”
And that’s not all. The source continued: “uuncha will follow the Rajshri model of release. They released their biggest blockbuster, Hum Aapke Hain Koun (1994), in very limited screens in week 1. And as word spread and demand grew, so did the number of prints. uuncha will also go the same way. It is expected to hit around 600-700 screens in India. The plan is to increase the number of screens every day as they hope it will generate very positive word of mouth. Such a move is risky, but the makers seem to be extremely confident in their product. That is why they have decided to follow this strategy.”
The source added: “Yash Raj Films will release” uuncha also in international markets. In India, except for Nizam, CP Berar, CI and Odisha, YRF will release the film everywhere. In the above four areas, Rajshri’s team will release the film.”
YRF’s decision to distribute a movie made by another banner is important in the present day as they mainly distribute their own movies domestically. Some recent external films distributed by YRF in India are: Malang (2020), Jai Mama Di (2020), Chhota Bheem: Kung Fu Dhamaka (2019), Hanuman vs Mahiravana (2018), piku (2015) and Happy new year (2014).
An industry expert commented, “This is an epic partnership. As YRF completes 50 years, Rajshri completes 75 years. It is significant that they both came together in their historic years.”
uuncha also stars Parineeti Chopra, Boman Irani, Anupam Kher, Sarika and Neena Gupta. The film will hit theaters on November 11, 2022.
