Bryan Cranston clarifies retirement rumors, says he’ll ‘stop’ acting

Bryan Cranston is setting the record straight after reports aired last week that the “Breaking Bad” Emmy winner will retire from acting in 2026 when he turns 70.

“Some news came out that wasn’t entirely clear … even to me,” Cranston recently wrote instagram post, “So I wanted to set the record straight. I’m not retiring.

While many understood Cranston’s comments in the British GQ Interview published on Thursday He made clear his intention to take a step back from acting as a “pause”, as he plans to retire from the industry while he pursues a quieter life abroad with his wife, Robin Dearden.

Cranston wrote, “After I reach my 70th birthday in 2026, I’m going to hit the pause button for a year.” “I’m not even sure what ‘stopping’ means entirely, but at this point, I think it means taking a year off it will provide a number of things.”

Cranston’s reasoning for the “pause” is twofold: to spend more time with his wife and to provide a “reset” in his career.

Expanding on his comments to British GQ, in which Cranston elaborated on his dream of moving to a foreign village with his wife, possibly one in France, he said the break would allow him to spend time with his other half. Will enable “in a way that I haven’t been able to in the last 25 years… not as a celebrity wife, but as a loving married couple – well, let’s be honest, our later years, With new hopes and goals and experiences.

While Cranston also expressed gratitude for his fulfilling acting career that he calls “an incredible ride spanning more than two decades – playing characters on TV, films and on stage”. [he] could only dream about,” he admitted, adding that he will take a step back from the big screen to enter the industry with a fresh spirit when he returns.

He wrote, “I feel like I’ve run out of ideas to play the characters I’m being offered.” “So searching for another extended life experience will give me an opportunity to fill my soul and approach whatever roles I may be offered in a more authentic way.”

During the break, Cranston reflected on his plan to “unplug from social media, get off the hamster wheel of business, and dip into the classic novels I’d always promised myself I’d read but haven’t.”

Before taking this pause, he also shared that he was “circling [his] Meditations on Returning to Broadway… in a New Light.

“For now, I express my deepest gratitude to all of you who have been so incredibly kind and generous with your time in reading my posts and following my career,” Cranston concluded. “I never take my good fortune for granted. I’m blessed, and man, do I know it. I wish you all the best… and I’ll see you on the road.”
