Cate Blanchett talks about winning her third Oscar for Tár

Will Cate Blanchett fulfill the awards prophecy of winning an Oscar every nine years? The two-time Oscar winner for ‘The Aviator’ (2004) and ‘Blue Jasmine’ (2013) is one of the favorites to possibly win her third for Todd Field’s psychological drama ‘Tár’, in which she plays a lesbian bandleader who begins to lose her grip on power and reality.

The drama landed six Academy Award nominations – Best Picture, Director, Actress, Original Screenplay, Cinematography and Film Editing. “Tár” is one of four feature films that have won the critical trifecta (New York, Los Angeles and National Society of Film Critics Awards), plus London. “I love Russell and Ron,” Blanchett says. “We were together at the César Awards in France and we got along very well… and we just stayed in touch. And then Russell asked: Would I record on my cell phone just me mugging myself on their latest single? I said sure… It was one of those crazy nights and at 3am I did something,” dancing alone on her smartphone. “But then I said, ‘You know, I’m going to be in LA,’ and they said, ‘Come on. … It was really fast. It was so much fun.”
