Chris Jericho on Terrifier 2, Says the Painmaker Might Be Able to Take Art the Clown

terrier 2 is in theaters October 6, marking the return of Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton) since part one was released in 2016. This time Art focuses on Sienna (Lauren LaVera) and her little brother Eric (Griffin Santopietro), challenging them at every turn and taking out anyone who crosses their path.

“I think if you have a Terrier fan, the question is always, ‘How do you top the first?’ and it’s just above and beyond. I said if Terrier 1 is Metallica’s ‘Kill Them All’, then terrier 2 is ‘Master of Puppets’. This has just gone to a whole other level, and that’s true across the board,” said Chris Jericho who plays Burke in the film.

Chris Jericho on Art the Clown in Terrifier 2

Jericho noted that it was actually Art the Clown who attracted him to be involved in the… Terrier universe, as he compared him to other horror icons such as Jason, Freddy, and Leather Face.

“That attracted me Terrier in the first place. I thought, even looking at the first one, Art is the most iconic killer we’ve had in the movies since the glory days of Jason and Freddy and Leather Face. He plays the part with such joy, and he is a clown. He honks, has his tricycle, and he just never leaves that character. But combine that with just these brutal, brutal murders that he commits while in character, that’s the real yin and yang where it’s so creepy because you don’t expect this weird looking clown to act like this,” Jericho said.

When asked if he could take Art the Clown as a professional wrestler, Jericho replied, “I don’t know if Jericho could do it, but The Painmaker might. The Painmaker was conceived as what a serial killer would look like if he were a professional wrestler… There’s your crossover, The Painmaker versus Art the Clown, a graphic novel waiting to happen.”

About Lauren LaVera as the last girl in Terrifier 2

“That’s another great thing,” Jericho noted when asked about his opinion of Thornton’s comments about LaVera as “the answer” to horror’s need for a new final girl.

“The female characters in part one were excellent, but like you said, Lauren isn’t on the charts… she’s cast perfectly because she’s really good in this movie from a performance standpoint. She looks great, and once she’s dirty to Art, you’ll believe it. The characters are so well developed, no pun intended even in her brother. You really care about these people and you don’t want them to be killed, and some of them do it in the worst of ways.”

Jericho concluded the interview by stating that Leone currently has some ideas for: terrier 3and also shared what he would like to see happen: “Damien has an idea for terrier 3. I think he kind of took the whole thing as a trilogy… I don’t want to speak on his behalf, but all the indications I know of are that there will definitely be a third part. I was like, ‘Dude, you gotta go all out, like Art the Clown goes to space.’ Just keep going… I would like more explanation about what Art is. We know there is a supernatural element in him. He can get involved in your dreams and live within them. He’s hard to kill, but you can still take him down and kill him a little bit… I want to see a little more of what exactly Art is, and I want to see more of the crazy insane murders that come out of Damien Leone’s mind .”
