Chris Rock Turns Down 2023 Golden Globes Hosting Gig – NBC

The Golden Globes were hoping to partner with the unwitting star of this year’s Oscars.

Chris Rock was offered “a ton” of money to host next year’s Globes ceremony on NBC, but turned it down, according to the Puck newsletter. (TVLine contacted NBC for comment.) SNL The alum and stand-up legend has held his share of awards shows in the past, including the Oscars twice, but the Globes were also clearly hoping to cash in on his newfound notoriety after Will Smith slapped Rock at the This year’s Oscars in March.

As of now, the Globes are still in the hunt for a host, but the annual awards show has locked down a return on NBC, with the 2023 ceremony scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 8/7c. The Globes became mired in controversy when the lack of diversity within its governing body, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, was revealed. As a result, NBC cut ties with the awards show, and it was not televised earlier this year. Since then, the HFPA has announced a membership overhaul, with more than 100 new voters, resulting in its electorate now being 52% women and 51.5% racially and ethnically diverse.

“We recognize the HFPA’s commitment to continued change,” said Frances Berwick, President of NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, “and we look forward to hosting the Golden Globes again on NBC for its 80th anniversary in January 2023. “

Who should host next year’s Globes? And will you even watch? Let us know in the comments.
