Christian Bale claims he avoided Chris Rock on the Amsterdam set because he was ‘so bloody funny’

The Amsterdam cast argues for the best ensemble of the year as the film is filled with some of the best talent in Hollywood. Christian BaleMargot Robbie and John David Washington direct the film under the direction of David O. Russell, featuring: Chris Rock serve as one of many supporting actors. Amsterdam follows the three Americans who formed a lifelong friendship while serving in WW1 and inadvertently become prime suspects in a murder case after witnessing the tragedy.

During an interview with IndieWireBale spoke about his time on the Amsterdam set and claimed he was forced to avoid Chris Rock. But this, of course, was not because of any drama between the two, but on the contrary. Their chemistry was so great and Rock was so funny that Bale had to stay away from the actor to stay serious and character on set. He says, “I remember his first day, I was excited to meet him, I’m a big fan of his stand up. Then he arrives and he does some stuff. … David [O. Russell] told him to tell me some stories I didn’t know he would tell me, and that’s the way David often works. And I loved it.” But according to Bale, he ended up spending so much time with Rock that it messed up his performance.

Christian Bale says he distances himself from his Costars quite often

Christian Bale is known to take his job seriously, and sometimes that means separating his personal life from his professional one. The actor admits that it is not the first time that he has had to distance himself from a costar, as he often prefers to focus on his work alone. “I often meet these incredible people, but I isolate myself. Because when I get to know people too much, I find that I just don’t believe what I’m doing in the scene.” His reasoning is understandable, as forming a close relationship with his costars means he knows a lot more about who they are beyond their character.
