The sixth and final season of the hit series Cobra Kai is now on hold as writers declare “pencils down” and join the picket line in a fight for fair wages and better working conditions. Cobra Kai co-creator and co-writer Jon Hurwitz has taken social media to reveal that while they hate going on strike, studios’ lackluster response has forced them to stop working on the Netflix show.
“We hate to strike, but when we have to, we strike hard,” Hurwitz said in his post, referring to the kind of mantra used by Cobra Kai hero Johnny Lawrence. “Pencils downstairs in Cobra Kai’s writers’ room. No writers on set. These are not fun times, but unfortunately they are necessary. As soon as there is a fair deal, we get back to work. Meanwhile, strength and support to the negotiating committee. You have this.”
Cobra Kai has been a huge success since it began in 2018. The series first debuted on YouTube Red before moving to Netflix with its third season in 2021, the series, which begins more than 30 years after the events of the 1980s The karate kidhas since seen a lot of viewers on the streaming platform and received acclaim from critics and audiences alike.
How the writing halt will affect the production and release date remains to be seen, but after six weeks of negotiations with the likes of Netflix, Amazon, Apple, Disney and more, the Writers Guild of America (WGA) got a disappointing result. felt there was no choice but to strike for the first time in 15 years.
Cobra Kai is ending with Season 6
That was recently confirmed Cobra Kai returns to the mat one last time for season six. Earlier this year, Cobra Kai creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg released a joint statement expressing their love for the karate kid franchise before you give fans a special thank you. “When Daniel LaRusso arrived in the Valley with his mother in 1984, little did he know his life would change forever,” Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg said in the statement at the time. The same was true of three young children from New Jersey who had not yet met. Daniel’s journey from bullied teen to underdog hero became an indelible part of our childhood and something we would always carry in our hearts.”
They continued, adding, “Our first goal with Cobra Kai has always been to end it on our terms and leave the Valley in the time and place we always envisioned. It is therefore with immense pride and gratitude that we can announce this achievement. The upcoming season six will mark the end of Cobra Kai. While this may be a bittersweet day for the fandom, the Miyagiverse has never been stronger. This fandom is the BEST in the world and we hope to share more Karate Kid stories with you in the future. Because as we all know, Cobra Kai never dies.”
Starring Ralph Macchio, William Zabka, Courtney Henggeler, Xolo Maridueña, Tanner Buchanan, Mary Mouser, Jacob Bertrand, Martin Kove, Peyton List and Thomas Ian Griffith, the first five seasons of Cobra Kai are now available to stream on Netflix.
