Daniel Radcliffe is purposely feeding Wolverine Casting rumors just for fun

Daniel Radcliffe admits he’s given mixed answers about his rumors of his cast as Wolverine when he’s starting to get bored with the question.

You can only ask Daniel Radcliffe about Wolverine so many times before he decides to start having fun with how he reacts. Since the X-Men film series ended with a subsequent announcement that the Mutants would be rebooted for the MCU, there’s been much speculation about who might play Wolverine, one of the superhero group’s most popular characters. The gruff mutant has notably been played by Hugh Jackman for the past two decades, including an imminent return to the role for Deadpool 3but we’ll most likely still see a role reshuffle for when the new X-Men arrive.

There have been rumors at various points about Harry Potter alum Radcliffe gets the part. In a new interview with GQRadcliffe comes clean by admitting that he’s often fueled those rumors himself, but not necessarily because he’s campaigning for the part. As Radcliffe explains, he just gets bored after answering that question the same way so many times, causing him to tease something about the casting despite not having conversations with Marvel Studios. Radcliffe suggests that maybe he should stop doing interviews about it.

“It is purely a rumor of a press tour; I say something, and then sometimes I get bored of answering that way, so I say something else, and that sets it off again. I should just never open my mouth.”

He likes weird roles, but would Daniel Radcliffe want to play Wolverine?

Something like Wolverine would be different for Radcliffe. As we can see from his appearance as “Weird Al” Yankovic in the Roku movie WEIRD: The Story of Al Yankovicalong with some of the interesting roles he’s played since his indie movies Harry Potter days it’s clear that Radcliffe loves playing unique characters. The only problem with something like Wolverine is that it could lock him up in the franchise for a while, and he’s worried about taking on long-term roles. As Radcliffe says in the GQ interview:

“I just never want to get stuck on something that I’m not sure I can keep with the same amount of money all the time.”

Time will tell what happens to Wolverine in the MCU, though it won’t be long before fans can see Radcliffe in his next starring role. WEIRD: The Story of Al Yankovic will be coming to Roku next month, and the film will see Radcliffe in what is his strangest role yet. You can stream it on The Roku Channel from November 4, 2022.
