British actor Daniel Radcliffe’s Weird: The Story of Al Yankovic, who opened the Midnight Madness section of the Toronto International Film Festival received heartwarming cheers and non-stop laughter during every second of the parody biopic.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the boisterous crowd sang and clapped along to Yankovic’s on-screen songs, including “I like Rocky Road” and “Amish paradise.” After the screening, Al Yankovic took the stage with director Eric Appel, Evan Rachel Wood and Radcliffe to a standing ovation.
In the highly anticipated parody biopic, Radcliffe stars as the much-loved parody musician. The upcoming Roku original movie is an extended version of a more than a decade old fake trailer posted by Funny or Die, starring Aaron Paul as Al and Olivia Wilde as Madonna.
Foreign will be directed by Appel, who co-wrote the film with Yankovic. Produced by Funny or Die and Tango, the project tells a largely fictionalized version of the parody artist’s rise to superstardom. It also marks Appel’s feature film debut. At the premiere, Appel compared the feature film with other musical biopics such as Rocketmanlike Forrest Gump and Boogie nights.
According to the report, the film also includes an original song by Yankovic playing over the credits, in which he sings that the song is eligible for an Oscar. The Grammy winner noted that they are currently in talks with labels about releasing the film’s soundtrack, including the original score. When asked if there would be a sequel to the comedy, Yankovic said, “I think there should be.”
Weird: The Story of Al Yankovic premieres on Roku on November 4.
