Danny Trejo takes a look back at From Dusk till Dawn: ‘I Stole the Movie!’

Danny Trejo looks back on From Dusk till Dawn and works with George Clooney on the vampire movie.

Danny Trejo continues to love his role in 1996 From sunset to sunrise. Directed by Robert Rodriguez and written by Quentin Tarantino, From sunset to sunrise tells the story of criminal brothers (George Clooney and Tarantino) who go to Mexico with hostages in tow to evade the law in the US, but end up trapped in a saloon overrun by bloodthirsty vampires. The film was a hit at the box office and would spawn a franchise with multiple sequels.

In the film, Trejo Razor plays Charlie, a vampire who moonlights as the saloon’s bartender. He meets his end when he is deployed by Tom Savini’s Sex Machine character. But despite his limited screen time, Trejo really stands out in the film, and that fact is not lost on the actor himself. In a new interview with GK reflecting on his most popular roles, Trejo reflected From sunset to sunrise and had this to say about the movie.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

“From Dusk till Dawn, I stole the movie, man! The movie was so real. It’s like you couldn’t help it being real. And then George Clooney was incredible. That was his first movie. God, man , 5- Six years later he did a movie called Up in the Air, and I just went to the premiere and he started yelling, you know, “Trejo! Hey, come here!” And he starts, he starts giving him my report. “Hey, he was in my first movie, brother!” And I thought, ‘Wow, this is George Clooney.'”

Danny Trejo appeared in all three Dusk till Dawn movies

Perhaps Trejo is on to something since he is the only actor to appear in all three episodes of the From sunset to sunrise trilogy. After appearing in the original movie, he returned in 1999 in From Dusk till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money along with the 2000 prequel From Dusk to Dawn 3: The Hangman’s Daughter. As if that wasn’t enough, Trejo also starred in the second season of From Dusk to Dawn: The Seriesalthough that was with a different continuity, with the actor taking on a different role.

“I think I’m the king of independent films, and I love it! I love making them,” Trejo said recently about why he loves making indie films. “I did a movie with Harrison Ford called Six days, seven nights, in Hawaii. It was like three months in Hawaii. I probably worked on it for 15 or 16 days. I get bored. With really expensive films you sometimes just sit in your trailer. I can’t stand being in caravans: it reminds me of a prison cell.”

From sunset to sunrise currently streaming on HBO Max.
