Dave ‘Lil Dickie’ Byrd working on next album ‘Every Day’

It’s been eight years since Dave “Lil Dickie” Byrd released a music album, but the rapper-actor says he’s in between writing on his album “Every Day” and filming his successful FX series “Dave are building.

“I’m not giving it up,” Bird told TheWrap about her music career during a panel discussion for the series at the 2023 Television Critics Association Press Tour. Byrd released his debut album “Professional Rapper” in 2015, which included the hits “Lemme Freak” and “$Away Dat Money”. “I’m still working on it every day. It’s coming together really nicely.

The first episode of “Dave” premiered on FX on March 4, 2020, generating massive streaming numbers with an average of 5.32 million total viewers per episode, making it the most popular comedy in FX history. With his success, Bird had to shift his focus from being a full-time musician to writing and executive producing series. Bird’s character centers on an aspiring rapper, which allows Bird to compose music for the show.

“It’s tough. I care a lot about both. There’s really only so much time in the day to get some things done,” Bird said. “The thing I love about the show is that it is not a scripted musical. This season, there’s more music by a mile than any other season of ‘Dave’. In that regard, I am able to flex both of those muscles at the same time. That being said, I totally understand that a hard core Lil Dicky fan who loves me as a rapper is like, ‘Man, it’s been years right since you had an album,’ and I He feels pain for them.

In the meantime, Bird says he plans to work on both his music and TV careers simultaneously.

“It’s a balancing act because I really care—I have a big chip on my shoulder as a musician because I think I’ve had a lot of success to prove as a musician, as an artist.” I am looking forward to doing this with my film career.

“Dave” Season 3 arrives April 5. The cast includes Bird, Gata, Andrew Santino and Christine Coe. Bird also shared that the next season will feature guest stars including Usher, Rick Ross, Don Cheadle, Demi Lovato, Machine Gun Kelly, Megan Fox, Killer Mike, and Travis Barker.
