Former X-Files star David Duchovny revealed whether or not he would be returning to the series.
In the 1990s, the sci-fi series The X files took the world by storm. The series follows the beloved duo of FBI special agents, Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, as they investigate unexplained cases and possible government conspiracies. The show’s success eventually led to movies, spin-off series, and eventually a short-lived revival The X files one of the longest running sci-fi series on television. Recently during an interview with The discourse podcasting, X files star David Dukhovny revealed if he would ever consider revisiting his iconic character.
Initially, the actor/director/writer talked about some of his recent projects, such as his movie The estate and his recently released graphic novel Keplerthe latter of which draws inspiration from Planet of the Apes. It is not surprising that questions were also asked about Duchovny X files and if he would ever consider bringing Fox Mulder back.
“I can’t really answer that question,” Duchovny said in regards to bringing his character back. “When I come back, it’s always like, ‘Well, what are the stories? What’s the reason for being at this point?’ I mean there’s a lot of reasons to exist one could be because people want to see it another is that Chris [Carter] or someone who knows and likes Chris says, “Oh, I’ve got a story to tell!” Look at this – this is how we could do this now.’ There’s no world where we just come back and do it the way we did before, because the world has changed.”
David Duchovny would only consider returning to X-files under specific circumstances
Duchovny further noted that he would be willing to return if another series revival brought something new to the table. The Evolution star said, “How do we change with it? If you could make the pitch to me and say, ‘Let’s do it this way now,’ which is kind of how I came back the last time. And I was like, “Let me try that.” You’re going to be playing this 30s and 60s That’s an interesting challenge but you don’t want to play it the same way You don’t want to tell the same stories because that gets a little weird and obscene You don’t want the [Rolling] Stones is still writing about making out with girls in the backseat of a car into their eighties. I mean, you could do it, and you could make a lot of money doing it, but a part of you would die.”
Duchovny’s comments on his X files character are notably similar to that of his former co-star Gillian Anderson, who recently clarified her previous comments by saying she was done playing Fox Mulder’s partner, Dana Scully. Anderson told Variety (via ScreenRant) that she would consider returning if X files things changed. “To even start that conversation would take a whole new group of writers and hand over the baton to make it feel like it was new and progressive.”
