“Dear Edward” actress Ana Uzele knows fans may not like the ending for her character Adriana and her love interest Kojo (Idris Debrandt) in the finale episode of the Apple TV+ drama series, but she sees love in it.
Uzele’s character Adriana Washington entered the story from the mind of Jason Katims, who adapted the novel by Ann Napolitano to create an ensemble story featuring Taylor Schilling as Lacey, Connie Britton as Dee Dee, and Edward Adler. Colin O’Brien also stars as the titular character. Survives a plane crash in which his family and all other passengers die. Adriana loses her grandmother and boss, Congresswoman Rose Washington (Linda Gravett), in the accident, but she befriends Kojo (DeBrandt), who is on a flight from Ghana to New York to pick up his niece, Beck (Khloe Bruno). It recruits sister), dies in an accident.
Kojo encourages Adriana to run for her grandmother’s seat in Congress, which she feels she wants to do after telling her grandmother that she wanted to quit working for him before the accident. Adrianna handles the campaign throughout the season and a budding romantic relationship with Kojo and Beck, who see her as a mother figure. Kojo intends to return to Ghana and take Beck with him, but Adriana wants to stay in New York. The two separate in the season finale.
“The ending with Adriana and Kojo may not be what a lot of people necessarily wanted or what they expected, but what I think is so cool is that I believe it’s the sweetest ending for Adriana and Kojo.” choice because they have this moment around the campfire where they both realize that their lives are going in different directions,” Uzele told TheWrap. “They love each other, but part of loving someone is giving them the freedom to fly and letting them be who they are.”
Uzele even says that if the two ended up together, it would have been a “less loving” option.
“I think if they end the way most fans want or the way you want, I think it would be a less loving choice. I think Adriana is going to chase her dreams.” It’s the sweetest thing for Kojo to give her and vice versa.So it’s a love ending in a different way than you’d imagine.
Adriana wins her campaign despite several obstacles, such as a reshoot of her college graduation speech and revealing that her grandmother paid her more than some of her other employees.
“Adriana suspects everyone at every turn. She is often the youngest adult in every single room she walks into, yet she is the one talking. She’s the one giving the speech, and she’s the one speaking,” Uzele said.
“It’s understandable that there’s skepticism about Adriana, she’s Rose Washington’s daughter, people are going to ask questions. Of course they want to know, ‘Does this Nepo baby deserve to be in this room?’ But the whole journey is really about her coming to power and realizing that her youth is not something that goes against her. In fact, it’s what fuels her and what gives her energy and I think That politics desperately needs that youthful spirit to come in and change things a bit.
