Director Todd Field exits Hulu show

Hulu is exiting the series, just days after “Devil in the White City” director and executive producer Todd Field star Keanu Reeves left, TheWrap has learned. This project EP is by Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio.

The long-running project was slated to mark “The Matrix” star’s first major television role as the infamous Dr. H.H. Holmes, considered the first modern American serial killer. . Based on the bestseller by Eric Larsen, “Devil in the White City” by Daniel H. Burnham, a demanding but visionary architect who races to make his mark on history with the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, and Holmes’ involvement in the fair’s infamous “Murder Castle.”

With Sam Shaw (“Castle Rock”) serving as writer and showrunner, the “Tur” director was set to run the show’s first two episodes. With Scorsese and DiCaprio, Rick Yorn, Xander Davison (via DiCaprio’s Appian Way), Stacey Sher, Mark Lafferty, Leila Boyock, Shaw and Field all executive produce. Produces with Paramount Television Studios ABC Signature.

An adaptation of the 2003 true-crime novel has been in the works for some time: DiCaprio was first reported to play Holmes in 2010, when the Appian Way published Larsen’s non-fiction novel, “The Devil in the White”. “The rights were acquired. City: Murder, Magic and Madness at the Fair That Changed America,” with Scorsese directing.
