The celebrations for the Diwali light festival have already started. Bollywood is already in the festive spirit as it is the first time in two years that everyone can celebrate the joy with their loved ones and well, elaborate parties.

We know how Bollywood beautifully captures the essence of Diwali, from rousing dance numbers to grand celebrations to beautifully celebrating our culture in the most creative ways possible. Let’s take a look at 4 iconic Bollywood movies that celebrate the spirit of Diwali:

1) Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001)

Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham is the iconic Bollywood film and one of the most beloved titles that beautifully showcases the celebration of the festival of lights. The globally popular family drama features an ensemble cast of Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Kajol and Kareena Kapoor and directed by Karan Johar.

The film has several iconic moments, especially the one in Diwali where the entire title song takes place and everyone sets costume goals even decades after release.

2) Mohabbatein (2000)

Shah Rukh Khan Leading Actor Iconic Movie Mohabbatein’s Diwali song Pairon Mein Bandhan Hai has the melodic song that holds a special place in everyone’s heart. Aided by Aditya Chopra, the musical romantic drama film also starred Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Uday Chopra, Jugal Hansraj, Jimmy Shergill, Shamita Shetty among others.

The official synopsis read: “Narayan is a strict director of Gurukul who does not believe in love and forbids his students to follow their hearts. But things take a turn when a music teacher challenges his authority.”

3) Hum Aapke Hain Koun (1994)

The 1994 Bollywood movie has an adorable Diwali scene where Renuka Shahne’s character gives birth to a boy and the whole family celebrates the festival on the occasion of his arrival, dancing to the iconic song “dictan.” Directed by Sooraj Barjatya, the romantic muscval starred Madhuri Dixit, Salman Khan, Renuka Shahane, Mohnish Bahl, Anupam Kher, among others.

The whole movie is a party in itself. Despite being a musical about the grandiose Indian weddings, the Diwali sequence remains especially enjoyable as the entire cast of the ensemble (all A-listers of the 90s) comes together with fireworks and sweets and most importantly – encapsulating love in a family during the festival.

4) Chachi-420 (1997)

Kamal Hassan starrer Hindi comedy remake starring Tabu, Amrish Puri, Om Puri, Johnny Walker and Paresh Rawal. The film includes a scene where Kamal Hassan’s Chachi saves a child from a terrible fireworks incident.

This movie has a peculiar Diwali sequence where Kamal Haasan and Tabu are part of the past and present Diwalis. There is also Fatima Sana Shaikh who played the child of the main couple in the film which makes it fascinating to watch.
