It’s the time of Dr. Watson to shine. Deadline reports that CBS wants to put a new spin on the Sherlock Holmes story by starring the sidekick for a new series called Watson. Described as a medical drama with detective elements, the series was written by Craig Sweeny, who previously worked on Elementary. Kapital Entertainment and Aaron Kaplan’s CBS Studios are behind the project. Sweeny will executive produce along with Kaplan, Brian Morewitz and Shäron Moalem MD, PhD.

The concept of killing Sherlock Holmes isn’t entirely new, though it certainly falls outside the norm for most adaptations. Original author Arthur Conan Doyle once wrote a short story, “The Final Problem” from 1893, in which Holmes was killed in a battle with Moriarty.
