Dwayne Johnson celebrates 20 years in Hollywood with a personal message to his fans

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has come a long way since his appearance in The Mummy Returns, and he was in the mood to celebrate his 20th birthday.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson took to his Instagram account to celebrate 20 years as a Hollywood movie star, and he wanted to make sure his fans know it’s all on them. From his rather dubious debut in The mummy returns as one of the worst CGI characters on screen, Johnson has defied his critics to become the biggest star currently working in Hollywood.

In addition to a personal video message to all his supporters, Johnson wrote on his post:

“Holy sh*t – this surprise really got me thinking and got me thinking about the journey and these unpredictable roads we all travel 20 years ago when I first arrived in Hollywood – all the “experts” told me that I shouldn’t call myself The Rock, I shouldn’t go to the gym and lose weight — and certainly not talk about pro wrestling. I was told, “If you want to make it in Hollywood, you’ve got to be like these other guys …” That never sat well with me, so I said I don’t and the only person I’m supposed to look like – is me. If I failed, at least I failed to be real and be myself Years later here we are and I say “holy sh*t” to this career mosaic on the wall and most importantly I say it THANK YOU to all of you for rocking these roads with me for all these years Love you guys and cheers to the most important thing we can all be – ourselves.”

Johnson has spent the best part of a year telling anyone who wants to hear that Black Adam is about to change the hierarchy of the DCEU, and with the recent upheaval at Warner Bros. Discovery around their comic book franchise, he could certainly be right about that. Thanks to the Covid pandemic it took much longer than planned to deliver Black Adam to cinemas, but with Johnson making it clear that this is the role of his career thus far, he certainly isn’t going to disappoint with his powerful performance as the DC anti-hero.

Black Adam hits theaters on October 21, 2022.
