Hollywood actor Dwayne Johnson praised his old friend and former The mummy returns co-star Brendan Fraser as the latter’s film The whale received a six-minute standing ovation at the 2022 Venice Film Festival.

Dwayne celebrated the actor, his work, and remembered working with him The mummy returns. “Man, this makes me so happy to see this beautiful ovation for Brendan,” Johnson wrote on Sunday, retweeting a clip of Fraser. “He supported me in getting into his Mummy Returns franchise for my very first role, which marked the beginning of my Hollywood career. I wish you success brother and congratulations to my friend Darren Aronofsky.”

The mummy returns premiered in 2001, as a follow-up to 1999 the mummy. Johnson portrayed the character Scorpion King in the second episode, while Fraser reprized his role of adventurer Rick O’Connell. Johnson’s performance even earned its own spin-off, The Scorpion King in 2002.

The whale follows Charlie, an obese man who feels lost in life as he tries to reconnect with his estranged 17-year-old daughter. At the premiere of the Venice Film Festival, as the end credits of the Darren Aronofsky drama rolled, the actor was overcome with emotion and sobbed during the six-minute standing ovation.

The whale has no theater date yet.
