Dwayne Johnson Says Old WB Regime Didn’t Want To Bring Back Henry Cavill As Superman

Spoiler Alert: This article contains possible spoilers for Black AdamThe internet is abuzz with rumors of a huge cameo in Black Adamand Dwayne Johnsonwho plays the titular antihero has also been teasing a possible showdown with a beloved DC comic character in recent days.

The character in question is Superman and Henry Cavill is rumored to be returning to the DCEU. Cavill’s return has not been officially confirmed, but Johnson’s recent comments and early reactions all point to Superman being Black Adam.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson seemingly confirmed the same in a… new interview.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

“I feel like this serves not only Black Adam, but the greater DC universe. But more than that, it takes care of the fans. And that’s what you want your lead foot to be. So yeah, phone calls, meetings … But man, this was years man. Six years to get that done. I’m going to say that again, six years we first started this and they kept saying no. Now, that leadership is here no more and we are ushering in a new era of the DC universe.”

Although Johnson did not explicitly state that Henry Cavill would appear as Superman in Black Adam, it is far from certain that he will. Six years ago, Cavill, Ben Affleck and Zack Snyder would start working on Justice League 2and Black Adam had not yet received the green light.

WB had big plans for Superman, but those were put on hold after Snyder left the DCEU and Cavill’s Netflix deal. The studio had considered introducing Supergirl as a replacement, along with a standalone Black Superman movie. Both projects have been shelved after the new CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, David Zazlav, shook up the company.

Shazam! and peacekeeper also featured a faceless version of Henry Cavill’s Superman, but it looks like the character will be making a comeback in the DCEU in all its glory. And that’s all thanks to The Rock.

Black Adam will expand the DCEU

After countless standalone films, WBD has finally managed to come up with a long-term plan for their most highly regarded franchise at the moment, the DC Extended Universe. Black Adam and The flash are set to reboot and extend the DCEU, with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom also brings back Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman.

Some would argue it’s a few years too late, but at least we’re not getting another reshuffle. And three vastly different Batmen at once is every fan’s dream scenario. Hopefully the WBD won’t make any more blunders in the future.

As Black Adam, a leaked post-credits scene is circulating on the internet and confirms a brief cameo from Henry Cavill’s Superman. All those reshoots weren’t just quality control measures, it seems. Dwayne Johnson has also stated that he plans to fight both Superman and Shazam, probably not in the same movie, but that’s the main goal. In fact, Black Adam was first intended to appear in Shazam! before he got a solo film.

Black Adam also marks the live-action debut of the Justice Society of America, and it won’t be long before fans can see the team on the big screen. Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, Black Adam will premiere on October 21, 2022.
