Patrick Dempsey was doing a quick interview on the D23 Expo red carpet when he was interrupted by a familiar face to both him and his fans — his “Grey’s Anatomy” costar, Ellen Pompeo. And a fickle exchange ensued.
When Pompeo came after Dempsey and started talking, he called Yahoo! K Kevin Polovy grabbed the mic and flipped it from interviewer to interviewer.
“Hello everyone. I’m here on the red carpet with Yahoo! Interview! Famous Ellen Pompeo,” she said straight into the camera and laughing as she threw her hand over his shoulder. “Ellen, what’s it like to be a legend?”
“Well, I thought we were legends already, but I’m really glad we’re officially legends,” she smiled, prompting Dempsey to confirm, yes, it’s official.
Pompeo and Dempsey, along with the late Chadwick Boseman, Tracee Ellis Ross, Anthony Anderson and Kristen Bell, were among the 2022 Disney Legends Honors awarded at this year’s D23 Expo on Saturday. The Disney Legends Award is given to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the Disney legacy.
After a few silly jokes about the bus ride, he went into full interviewer mode. “So, what’s up with your new project, Ellen? Talk about it.” His curiosity made him laugh while being in full character. However, he answered her.
“It’s a show on Hulu. It’s a limited series,” she said of the untitled show, which is based on a Midwestern couple who adopt an 8-year-old girl with a rare form of dwarfism.
“We’re talking Yahoo! Immediately. Is there anything on Yahoo!” He asked, which led to the bust of both of them.
“I’ll tell you what I’m not doing is singing and dancing,” she replied, referring to her return as Robert Phillippe in the “Enchanted” sequel “Disenchanted,” which will be exclusively available on Disney+ November 24. But ready to premiere.
“I am working on my Vegas show. We are going to announce it soon,” he revealed.
And Pompeo said that during a recent trip to Las Vegas he saw Bruno Mars in concert and tried Martha Stewart’s new restaurant, The Bedford in the Paris Hotel. Dempsey joked, “How’s Martha? She thinks she’s a little tipsy sometimes. She’s partying a little too much, Martha.”
Pompeo laughed at his reaction, saying, “Yesterday she just posed topless with an apron? Amazing!”
“And she looked great, by the way,” he smiled. “I don’t know who is training him, but they are good.”
Of course, he had to mention “grays”.
“How’s the new season? There are so many new faces out there. Are you going to do 30 seasons?” she asked, holding the mic up to her mouth as she laughed through the “interview,” which Dempsey actually nailed.
