Euphoria’s Maude Apatow Shares Sweet Feelings About Sister Sydney Sweeney Onscreen

Maude Apatow has officially declared 2022 the year of Sydney Sweeneyand we can’t help but agree.

This year alone, the 24-year-old actress has been nominated for two Primetime Emmys for her roles in Euphoria and The white lotusand scored a (yet unknown) role in Sony’s upcoming Mrs Web.

Now, Sweeney has been identified as a member of the TIME100 Next 2022, a list of “emerging leaders from around the world” who are shaping the future and defining the next generation of leadership.

In honor of her nomination to the list, Euphoria co-star and Sweeney’s on-screen sister Maude Apatow shared sweet feelings about the actress with time.

“2022 is Sydney Sweeney’s year and I’ve had a front row seat,” Apatow began, narrating one of the most memorable scenes from the show’s second season.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

“I play Sydney’s sister Lexi on Euphoria and watched her act up close, literally two inches from her face. In one of her many memorable moments this season, Sydney’s character Cassie sits in a bubble bath and watches her best friend Maddy have a passionate fight with her boyfriend Nate, who is having an affair with Cassie. Stressed out by guilt, jealousy, horniness, anger and being hammered, Cassie ends up throwing up in the middle of the hot tub.”

‘I’ve never met anyone who works harder’: Apatow on Sweeney’s acting skills

Apatow says Sweeney is the only one who would be able to showcase the wonderfully disgusting hot tub scene in what she calls a “fierce, comedic ballet.”

“Sydney juggles all those emotions in a fierce, comedic ballet that only she can pull off. I’ve never met anyone who works harder or is more inventive,” she writes. “One minute she will make you cry tears of laughter and the next she will break your heart. Sydney is an unstoppable force. She created a very different character in the remarkable series The white lotus and was nominated for the Emmy for both performances.”

And although the characters of Apatow and Sweeney on Euphoria having a weak relationship at best (as sisters do), Apatow has nothing but love and awe for her opponent.

“In addition to her acting, she can produce a movie, fix a car, fight you MMA style, and shine on the red carpet on the same day,” she says. “I’m so excited to see what my boyfriend is going to do next. Whatever it is, I’ll be watching wherever my seats are.”

Euphoria is now streaming on HBO Max.
