“Galaxy Quest” TV series in the works on Paramount+ – Deadline

Paramount Television Studios is making a new attempt at a Galaxy Quest TV series based on the cult 1999 sci-fi comedy film by DreamWorks. The project, which is in its early stages of development, is resident on Paramount+. The film’s producer, Mark Johnson, is executive producing through his Gran Via Productions. There is no concept or author yet. Paramount+ and Paramount TV Studios representatives declined to comment.

The original idea was to make a sequel to the film with the same cast, and Johnson was initially supported by the feature film’s writer, Robert Gordon, and director, Dean Parisot. The planned sequel, which landed on Amazon in 2015, suffered a major blow when one of the film’s main stars, Adam Rickman, died in 2016.

The Galaxy Quest The TV series project has since gone through several other incarnations, including one by Paul Scheer and one by Simon Pegg and successor Author Georgia Pritchett.

Galaxy Questa show of classic TV series star trek, starred Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Rickman, Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell, Daryl Mitchell and Enrico Colantoni and introduced Justin Long in his feature film debut. Although the film wasn’t an instant box office hit, it was embraced by sci-fi fans and quickly achieved cult status.
