Giancarlo Esposito has played several iconic characters throughout his career, with most of his portraits consisting of menacing villains. The actor is Gustavo Fring in Breaking Bad and You better call Saul, the owner of Los Pollos Hermanos by day and a ruthless drug lord by night. In addition, Esposito Moff plays Gideon in The Mandalorian, where he is the leader of a fallen remnant of the Galactic Empire determined to capture Grogu, the child protecting the titular character. The actor also has a recurring role in the boys, the premier video series about superheroes abusing their power. He plays Stan Edgar, the former CEO of Vought International and one of the most powerful characters in the series, despite having no superpowers available.
Now Esposito is taking on a new role, which will be in the voice acting category with Cyberpunk: Edge Runners. According to a tweet from the officially edge runners account, the 64-year-old actor plays a character named Faraday in the anime series. While the background of the role is still unknown, you can expect his character to pull off some deviant acts if he’s even remotely similar to his other prominent roles. Esposito will of course be featured in the English dub of Cyberpunk: Edge Runnersas the original language of the series will be Japanese.
The rest of the cast list was announced with Esposito, and the team includes Zack Aguilar (demon slayer), Matthew Mercer (Attack on Titan), Stephanie Wong (Green Snake), Gloria Garayua (Fun with Dick and Jane), and Borge Etienne (Shadows in the mirror) along with several others. The hatching of Cyberpunk: Edge Runners is almost here, arriving on Netflix next Tuesday, September 13. The series will feature 10 episodes developed by Studio Trigger and CD Projekt Red, the developers behind the video game, Cyberpunk 2077. The series follows a street kid trying to survive in a technology and body modification obsessed city of the future. With everything to lose, he chooses to stay alive by becoming an Edgerunner, a mercenary also known as a Cyberpunk.
Cyberpunk: Edge Runners should scratch that itch for people who like projects like: Blade Runner, Akira, Ghost in the shelland Tron Legacy. If you want to see more of Giancarlo Esposito, Netflix’s latest project with Studio Trigger is just what you need. The level of his involvement in the series is still unknown; however, fans are hoping for another iconic role from the celebrated actor.
