Girls5eva Saved by Netflix After Peacock Move

After the musical comedy series that first aired on Peacock, ‘Girls5Ava’ has found a new home on Netflix for Season 3. Netflix has also acquired co-exclusive global streaming rights for the first two seasons.

From Emmy-winning producer-showrunner Meredith Scardino and executive producers Tina Fey (Little Stranger, Inc.), Jeff Richmond and Robert Carlock (Bevel Gears), the popular series stars as Sara Bareilles, Renee Ellis Goldsberry, Busy Phillips and Paula Pell are in. One-hit wonder girl groups from the turn of the millennium who reunite to give their musical dreams one more time. They can be women balancing husband and wife, kids, job, debt, aging parents and shoulder pain, but can’t they also be girls5th?

While it is common for Linear Originals to move to a streaming hub after cancellation, this is the first of its kind in the changing TV landscape. According to Deadline, the move was a difficult one in Peacock that forced officials to prioritize other series.

Scardino was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series for Season 1 of “Girls5ava”. Both seasons are certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, with Season 2 named one of the best shows of 2022 by Vanity Fair, Vulture, The Washington Post and Pest.
