HBO Series Stars Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey

HBO has unveiled the first trailer for “The Last of Us,” the highly anticipated drama series adaptation of the critically acclaimed video game of the same name.

The story, set 20 years after the collapse of civilization, follows Joel (Pedro Pascal), a survivor who has to be pulled out of an oppressive quarantine zone for smuggling a 14-year-old girl named Ellie (Bella Ramsey). has been hired. But while the job starts out small, it soon becomes a brutal and heart-wrenching journey across America, leaving the two dependent on each other for survival.

The largely dialogue-free trailer previews a post-apocalyptic epic, though with an intense focus on the characters at the center of the story. Just like the game.

The video game’s creator, Neil Druckmann, serves as co-producer on the series along with Craig Mazin, who created HBO’s acclaimed limited series “Chernobyl”. Druckmann and Mazin also serve as writers and directors on the show.

Released in 2013, “The Last of Us” became one of the most acclaimed video games in recent memory and was followed by a sequel to “The Last of Us Part II” in 2020. Sony’s Screen Gems basically tried to mount a movie. The adaptation was to be produced by Sam Raimi, but this iteration of the project fell away before HBO flagged a TV adaptation in 2020.

Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson, who voice the main characters in the games, also appear as separate characters in the HBO series.

The ensemble cast of “The Last of Us” also includes Storm Reid, Gabriel Luna, Melanie Lynskey, Merle Dandridge, Nico Parker, Murray Bartlett, Nick Offerman, Jeffrey Pierce and Anna Torv.
