The HBO show sees competition from Amazon Prime Video and Netflix for the top spot among most-watched new shows
In this weekly data series powered by Parrot Analytics, we look back at the top breakout shows from the past week. The breakout show is the most sought after series which premiered in the last 100 days.
HBO’s “last of usIt seems to have firmly cemented its position at the top of the breakout show rankings, and it looks like it’s here to stay. While we expected the show to lose its spot to one of the new highly sought after shows during the past few weeks, the apocalyptic drama series proved us wrong. Talk of a second season may have helped boost demand for the show by 2%, making it 43.1 times higher than the average series in the US for the week of April 8–14. “The Last of Us” has gained an edge over its rivals, as shows that were best positioned to beat it suffered a double-digit drop in demand last week.
Netflix’s “The Night Agent” managed to stay in second place, but that looks unlikely to happen next week as demand for the series fell 23% week over week. This was a massive drop for the show, and was only 29.8 times the average series demand, significantly lower than the previous week’s average of 39.2 times. amazon prime videodaisy jones and the sixAfter a drop of 17%, it managed to retain its position in third place this week despite being in demand 25.8 times higher than the average series. Since “Daisy Jones” ends March 24, there’s a possibility that both it and “The Night Agent” could soon drop out of the top three.
In the fourth, fifth and sixth place we see “triple stampede“,” Rabbit Hole “and”shrinkAll maintained almost the same level of demand as last week, with a very slight decline. Meanwhile, Peacock’s “Poker Face” came in at number seven with roughly the same level of demand as the previous week, up 19 times the average. The CW’s”gotham knightsThe week following the airing of its fifth episode on 11 April saw a 3% increase, giving it 19 times higher than average demand.
Syfy’s “arkretained its position at number nine this week thanks to a 3% increase, which drove 17.3 times more demand than the average series in the US this week. There was a small increase in demand after the final episode aired on 12 April. Given that the finale is set to air on Wednesday, we expect to see a slight increase in demand for the series next week before it drops out of the rankings.
There’s a new entrant this week to end the top breakout show, ABC’s “the company you keepranked tenth with 17.5 times the average series demand, a 9% increase that came after the airing of its seventh episode on April 9. The drama series, which premiered on February 19, continues to build a fan base and episodes It is set to air till May 7, so it will be interesting to see how much the demand for it can pick up in the next few weeks.
